Top tips for reducing condensation in your home

Many daily activities can lead to a build up of moisture in the air, which can form condensation when it comes into contact with hard surfaces. If left like this, condensation can eventually form damp and mould - but there's lots you can do to stop that from happening, including:

  • Wiping away condensation when you see it
  • Ventilating your home regularly by opening windows when weather permits and keeping trickle vents open
  • Avoiding blocking air bricks or other areas that encourage air to circulate
  • Truing to keep your home at a consistent temperature - ideally between 18 and 20 degrees, even when you're out
  • Avoiding drying clothes on radiators and ensuring good ventilation by opening windows and trickle vents when you do dry them
  • Leaving a slight gap between furniture and walls
  • Making sure any extractor fans are switched on and working
  • Trying to keep your bathroom warm before you run a hot tap and only opening a window after you've bathed or showered, and the hot water is gone
  • Using lids on pans when cooking, opening windows and closing doors where possible
  • Making sure any tumble dryers are properly fitted
