Pop Up Recycling Centre

On Thursday 12th October we will be joining forces with Newcastle City Council to provide a pop up recycling centre in Shieldfield. This is to help residents who may not have access to a car.

The centre will run from 8am-1pm and will be based in Pandon Court Car Park.

Going the extra mile for Vale House

Earlier this year, a vital bus service that served Vale House was cancelled. Residents of the building were encouraged to use two other local routes. The other bus stops were further away from the building and included a steep climb. Unfortunately, these were not an option for some residents with mobility issues. They were left feeling isolated.

The Customer Insight and Engagement team stepped in to offer support. A meeting was arranged with the residents and a representative from Nexus. This meeting gave customers the chance to be heard by Nexus.

Nexus has agreed to take the feedback and create a new service for Vale House.

Nexus also have a TaxiCard scheme that can help people with mobility difficulties travel independently. It allows its members to travel with one of the approved taxi companies at a discounted price. For more information or to find out if you're eligible, click here

Looking for an opportunity to volunteer and have your say?

Consider joining our scrutiny panel. SIFT (Scrutiny Involvement for Tenants) are a small group of tenants and leaseholders who gather evidence and scrutinise activities at YHN to make recommendations for service improvements.

They have considered many topics such as YHN and NCC’s service delivery and engagement through the Covid 19 pandemic, they have investigated the role tenants and leaseholders play in helping to keep high-rises safe from fire and will start their latest scrutiny into damp and mould later in the year.

The group are independent, led by an experienced consultant, allowing their scrutiny to provide a mechanism for tenants to contribute to improved business performance and to the quality and standards of housing services.

You can read more about them here.
