Summer of Fun

This summer there is a jam-packed schedule of activities, events and offers available to keep families entertained right across the city.

From films, arts and crafts, sports camps, and family cooking sessions, to a Shaun the Sheep trail and an art and music festival. There is something for all ages and abilities!

There are also some great offers available to help families with the additional cost of the summer holidays with certain restaurants and cafes offering free or discounted meals for children, free water stations across the city and the Best Holiday Ever activities with food programme.

Summer of Action

Have you seen us out and about in your area?

As part of our commitment to make a positive contribution to your neighbourhoods, we've organised 6 weeks of clean-ups across the city.

Teams from across YHN have been out in force as part of our Summer of Action, with up to four clean ups per week. As well as bulkier items, we’ve removed 213 black bags of litter from 8 neighbourhoods so far. By the end of the summer, we will have reached all 26 wards of Newcastle so keep an eye out for the hi vis vests in your area.

While the main purpose is to clear litter and fly tipping, staff are also available to speak to any customers with concerns. Our ‘Don’t think what if I’m wrong. Think what if I’m right’ campaign highlights the importance of reporting or contacting us to discuss things like ASB, damp, mould and condensation, cost of living support and neighbour concerns.  Basically, anything that just doesn’t feel right.

Leading the way in fire safety

We’re very proud to announce that YHN has recently been awarded the BAFE accreditation for the work we do to carry out fire risk assessments on our properties.

Only three other housing providers in the country have managed this so this really is a massive achievement and an example of how we’re leading the way in building safety in the social housing sector.

You can read more about it here.

Want to get involved?
We'd like to invite you to join our Building Safety Group and share your knowledge and experience. The group is focused on maintaining high safety standards and gives customers a chance to suggest improvements or raise concerns.

Have your say and help YHN improve services for all customers. Email the Customer Insight & Engagement team at  or phone 0191 211 5400 to join today.
