Ben Farrell – Housing Services Officer

How did you start off in your role and what's a typical day like?

I’m Ben and I’m a Housing Officer at YHN. I’ve been working at YHN for 3 years now, originally starting off as a Your Homes Your Jobs Trainee when I was a YHN tenant, then I became a Tenancy and Estates Assistant before starting my career as a Housing Officer. My role is very varied but typically involves managing void properties, carrying out estate and property inspections, letting properties and dealing with tenancy sign ups and successions. My role can also involve dealing with low level ASB, environmental issues, as well as councillor and MP queries.

What do you enjoy most about your job? 

I love that no day is the same in my job and the variation of my role. I also enjoy being able to get involved with community events and get out onto the estates and be able to have a chat with the tenants that I support, it’s nice to be able to have a general positive impact on peoples’ lives – it is really rewarding.

What do you love about YHN?

I love how customer focused YHN is, having been a YHN tenant and now a member of staff I can really see it from both sides. I also love the work life balance as well as how friendly my colleagues are.
