YHN has an Armed Forces Outreach Service, which helps veterans to make the transition from military life back into civilian life, and also supports serving members of the Armed Forces and their families.

Newcastle City Council’s lettings policy, which YHN adheres to, states that former and serving members of the armed forces, as well as their bereaved spouses and civil partners, will be considered to be in “urgent need” of housing in particular circumstances and given a higher priority banding when bidding for the properties we manage. You can read the policy here and you’ll find the relevant information on pages 25-28.

We’re part of a wider service run through The Gateshead Housing Company, which provides help around housing, benefits and employment, and you can read more about that here.

Our Armed Forces Outreach Officer, Steve Lambert, is based alongside our housing options service at Newcastle City Library and can be reached via steve.lambert@yhn.org.uk or on 0191 277 1297.

He can provide useful advice and support to former or serving members of the armed forces as well as bereaved spouses and civil partners.
