Amy Martin – Safe Living Officer

Amy Martin – Safe Living Officer

How did you start off in your role and what's a typical day like?

I’m Amy Martin and I’m a Safe Living Officer at YHN. I’ve been working in my role at YHN for 3 years now but have worked in housing since 2010. The main part of my role includes investigating ASB and breaches of tenancy, protecting customers who are categorised as being at high risk and vulnerable, working with other agencies to share information and take action where appropriate, and having clear procedures to deal with people who cause problems for others, as well as dealing with tenancy enforcement and safeguarding issues. Our main aim is to tackle and reduce ASB which can take many different forms, including threatening behaviour, loud music, harassment and criminal behaviour. We believe our customers are entitled to live in safe, well managed homes, where they feel good about themselves and their communities. It’s an exciting time at YHN as we implement a new neighbourhood approach within Housing Services, bringing colleagues from Safe Living, Housing Solutions, Income Advice and Collection and Housing Services to work collaboratively. I also manage our Safe Living Kickstarters, Apprentices and Your Homes Your Jobs staff within the team.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love how my job varies day to day, one day I could be out with multiple agencies such as police, fire service, and social services, and the next day I could be in court presenting a case. No day is the same and I love this as I have a real passion for working in this sector, making a difference and ‘making living easier’.

What do you love about YHN?

I genuinely love the people I work with at YHN, we are a big supportive family! I also love the flexibility of flexi time and a good work/life balance. I also feel really valued by my manager and team which empowers me to always go the extra mile. I am not afraid to say that YHN is the best company I have worked for. I love that we all get involved in events such as LGBT 5K, Armed Forces Day, PRIDE march etc.
