Support with energy bills is extended for three months

Customers using prepayment meters are reminded that financial help is available.

Body

The Energy Bills Support Scheme has been running since October 2022, and following the Chancellor’s Spring Budget announcement, is being extended by a further three months until June 2023.

The Scheme aims to help reduce people’s energy bills, with payments of £67 each month.

Those who pay by direct debit, credit card or smart prepayment meter automatically receive the discount.

However, those who use prepayment meters receive this support in the form of vouchers but reports suggest that nearly a quarter of these energy vouchers still have not been redeemed, and they expire after 90 days.

Residents with a traditional prepayment meter, which requires topping up using a key or card in a local shop or Post Office, should expect a voucher from their energy supplier to arrive by post, email or text.

If your voucher does expire, you can ask for it to be reissued. All vouchers must be redeemed by 30 June, 2023. Your supplier will contact you if you do not redeem your voucher.

You will never be asked for personal information, such as bank details, to get this payment.
