YHN Sustainable Procurement Charter
Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) is fully committed to the principles of Sustainable Procurement, considering social, economic and environmental issues at all stages of the procurement process and as part of the whole life cost of a contract. We will do this by ensuring that sustainability considerations are embedded within our procurement processes and will use our purchasing power to promote good practice with those with whom we do business.
Industry understands the importance for companies to become more sustainable in order to remain competitive in the market, bringing benefit to its stakeholders. Whilst delivery of operational capability must always be the primary goal, we wish to work actively in partnership with our suppliers and their Trade Associations to capitalise on industry’s enterprise and innovation to develop and embed sustainable procurement principals into procurement and through life management practices.
To progress sustainable procurement we intend to benchmark our current performance in this area using the “Flexible Framework”, which is a national level voluntary measure of organisational performance introduced by the Sustainable Procurement Task Force in 2006. Thereafter we will identify procurement categories with a high sustainability impact and focus our attention on performance improvement in these areas; lower impact areas will be addressed thereafter
