There is lots of free support available in Newcastle to help you gain work skills and experience and all of the organisations listed below can help in some way. YHN works in partnership with these organisations to increase the job opportunities available to our customers.   • Newcastle Futures

    YHN is working in partnership with Newcastle Futures to offer practical advice and support to help people in Newcastle get into work or training.

    Newcastle Futures Customer coordinators are available in our YHN Housing Services offices to provide a voluntary one-to-one advice and guidance service for customers. Click here to go to the Newcastle Futures website.

  • Learning Hives

    Learning Hives have been set up in partnership with the Northern Learning Trust in Walker and Newbiggin Hall.

    The Hives offer free learning opportunities and support with basic skills in maths and English, ICT and employability.

    Walker Hive is located in Walker Parish Church Hall (opposite the Church Walk shopping centre) and is open Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 10am-3pm.

    Galafield Hive is located in the Galafield Centre (Newbiggin Lane, Newbiggin Hall) and is open Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am-3pm.

  • Newcastle City Learning

    Newcastle City Learning provide courses, apprenticeships and other learning opportunities for adults in Newcastle upon Tyne. Improve your employment prospects, take up a new hobby or enjoy a successful start to your career through an apprenticeship with a local business.

  • Newcastle College Employment Gateway

    Newcastle College, provide a service called The Employment Gateway. It is designed to give you support to help you get back into work, training or to gain essential employment skills.

    The Employment Gateway provides you with a range of services tailored to your individual needs. Experienced team members work with you to develop employability skills such as CV writing and interview techniques. They will also help you in finding suitable job vacancies and access training and support.

    The Gateway can also help you to access a number of short employability courses covering a wide range of subjects including.

  • National Careers Service

    YHN is working in partnership with The National Careers Service to provide free, impartial advice and guidance, helping customers to overcome barriers to work, education and training.

    If you’ve been out of work for some time or are looking to change your career, a National Careers Service adviser can help. Your adviser will support you in finding employment, education and training. Their sessions will identify the skills you have, areas you can improve and work options that suit you. Together you will create an individual action plan with long term and short term goals, and the step by step actions you need to take to reach them.

    National Careers Service advisers are available to provide group workshops and one to one advice and guidance sessions. The National Careers Service works with other organisations to help remove multiple obstacles, including mental health, drug and alcohol, debt, childcare and language barriers. They can help you access funding, get you into training, develop your CV and improve interview technique. The service is tailored to your needs to make sure you feel confident and fully prepared to take your next step in work, learning and life.
