Applications open at Your Homes Newcastle to celebrate National Apprenticeship Week 2020

Your Homes Newcastle (YHN) is recruiting new apprentices in roles ranging from social care to marketing during a national campaign to highlight the importance of apprenticeships in the workplace.

YHN’s apprenticeship programme is open to people who live in homes managed by YHN and currently has opportunities in adult care, customer service, business administration and communications and marketing.

YHN’s programme provides apprentices with a package of support that helps people with no little or no previous work experience to settle into their roles. This includes a dedicated mentor and ongoing help from the organisation’s employability team.

Megan, one of YHN’s current administration apprentices, said: “From school I went straight into the food industry but I realised at college I wanted to change career. I needed some new skills and I thought an administration apprenticeship would be a good place to start.

“I’ve completely turned my career prospects around. At the beginning of the year I was in a bit of a dead-end job with minimum wage on a zero hours contract and now I’ve got a full-time job on a pretty decent wage, all in nine months.

“It’s flown over but I’ve done so much. It is definitely worthwhile if you get the opportunity.”

National Apprenticeship Week is an annual celebration of the impact apprenticeships make on individuals, employers and the economy. Jen Vinton, Director of Customer Services at Your Homes Newcastle said: “As a local employer, it’s important to us that we provide employment opportunities for people who live in our community and we continue to be impressed by the energy apprentices bring to our organisation.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming our next round of apprentices and encourage anyone who is thinking about applying to get in touch, even if you’re not sure if it’s for you. Our employability team is here to help any of our customers who are looking for work and can provide information about the full range of opportunities we have on offer.”

Full details about employment opportunities and support at YHN are advertised at www.yhn.org.uk/i-need-support/getting-a-job/.

Applications for apprenticeships are open now and will close on Wednesday 19th February 2020.
