For the ninth year in a row, Your Homes Newcastle been recognised in the Stonewall list of top employers for LGBT equality. In 2018, 434 organisations participated, employing a total of 93,582 employees.

This year, we’re in joint 47th position, alongside Sussex Police, and we’re the fourth highest ranked housing organisation in the list.

This is the first year that Stonewall has ranked it’s trans-inclusive employers and we’re very pleased to report that we’re in the top ten of those making “the biggest strides in trans inclusion within the workplace”.

2018 was a good year for the region, with Newcastle City Council ranking at number nine, and the North East Ambulance NHS Foundation Trust, Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service, Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust and Northumbria Police also featuring and the housing sector was also well represented as is often the case.

A feedback session with our contact at Stonewall is planned for early March, where we’ll find out more about what helped us to score highly as well as possible areas for improvement – which we’ll of course be looking to address as soon as possible.

Our Managing Director, Tina Drury, said: “We’re thrilled with our position on this year’s Stonewall Workplace Equality Index and this really is a testament to the efforts of staff across our organisation who are passionate about recognising and celebrating equality and diversity. We’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that all of our services are inclusive of LGBT Plus communities and we’re committed to maintaining that. Our Proud@YHN staff network group has worked tirelessly to raise awareness of important issues for the LGBT Plus community and YHN has engaged with more staff and residents than ever this year.
