From cash desk to Director as Tina takes over at YHN!
Your Homes Newcastle, the housing management company owned by Newcastle City Council, has been joined by a new Managing Director.
Hailing from Kenton in Newcastle, Christina Drury started her career in 1982 as a clerk at the City Council’s housing department. Since then she has developed her career at a number of housing associations, helping transform homes and housing services in the region in previous executive roles at South Tyneside Homes, Castle Morpeth Housing and the Isos Group, where she was Group Executive Director (Customers and Communities).
Your Homes Newcastle manages around 30,000 homes across Newcastle and employs 850 staff. In April, it embarked on a new ten-year Management Agreement with Newcastle City Council, for whom it also provides a range of services that support tenants, including Newcastle Furniture Service, the country’s leading furniture rental service for social landlords.
Tina is a member of the Chartered Institute of Housing and started at YHN this June. She said: “I am already impressed by the size and scale of what YHN does and can see some great opportunities to introduce my own thinking and know how. We are all aware of the ongoing changes in the social housing sector and we can expect more to come, but it remains a great product that strengthens the city and supports customers.
“I’ll be working to reshape the business so that we remain relevant and are in the best possible position to deal with the challenges we face.”
Olivia Grant, Chair of Your Homes Newcastle, said: “Finding the right person to lead YHN was an exceptionally important task. Tina is a warm and engaging communicator who shares our values and commitment to customers and the cause of social housing. We’re very pleased to have her on board”
Pat Ritchie, Chief Executive of Newcastle City Council said: “I am delighted with this appointment and look forward to working with Tina.
“Providing good-quality homes in decent neighbourhoods is a priority for the Council. Tina’s wealth of experience and track record of delivery will play a huge part in achieving our housing ambitions.
“Actually, Tina started off in Newcastle as a housing officer so it’s great to welcome her back to where her career began.”
