Paying your rent - your responsibilities
When you signed your tenancy agreement, you entered into a legal
contract with us. You have responsibilities as a tenant - one
of these is to pay the rent regularly and on time. As with any
contract, if you do not pay, this can lead to court action which
may result in you losing your home.
Rent is charged and payable on a weekly basis but if you want to
make alternative payment arrangements you should contact your
Housing Services Officer.
If your payments are up to date there are three non payment
weeks during the year, two at Christmas and one at the end of
March. If your rent account is in arrears you should make your
normal weekly payment during these weeks, thus reducing your
arrears.
We may change your rent (including any charges for services) by
giving four weeks notice. This however does not apply to changes
due to the revision of water and sewerage charges. We will make
these changes from the date they happen and inform you in
writing.
Advice and support
If you find at any time that you cannot make your rent payments
contact your Housing Services Officer. We can only help you if you
tell us you're having problems.
Whether you are working or not, you may still be entitled to
Housing Benefit to help towards payment of your rent. Application
forms and advice are available from your local Community Housing Office or our
Advice and Support
team.
