Young People's Services hostel

(Formerly Stepping Stones)
The Young People's Services hostel is a supported housing
service for young people aged between 16 and 21. We aim to
prepare young people to live independently and to promote positive
lives for young people. We see the hostel as a 'place for
change'.
The hostel is in Gosforth and provides 24-hour staffed
direct-access accommodation for homeless young people. We
have 10 bedrooms and offer this accommodation as a short term
solution while we support young people to move onto longer
term accommodation.
Young people are giving a license agreement for the duration of
their stay. It is a short term license agreement that can be
extended up to 2 years dependent on their needs.
We want to:
- support young people to move on to long-term independent
living
- support young people to live in the community
- involve young people in decision making
- promote positive activities, such as days out which in the past
have included paint-balling and waterfall jumping.
Staff are here to support young people and will complete
individual support plans, risk assessments, reviews and frequent
key-work sessions. Staff also offer support and advice about
anything from emotional to practical issues. This includes
things like:
- applying for benefits and budgeting
- finding training, education or employment
- making and attending appointments
- solving problems and making positive choices
- accessing other agencies for support, such as DnA, Connexions,
or counselling services
- accessing health services
- and much, much more...
