Meet the Sheltered Housing Officer: Sue Bolam
"Hi, my name is Sue and I’ve been a Sheltered Housing
Officer for 24 years (Wow! Has it been that long already?)
I’ve always enjoyed working with older people - in a previous job I
was a civil servant for the pension service, so I already
understood the problems older people sometimes face and had some
ideas of how to help them.
"My favourite thing about working here is that people are so
willing to try new things and learn new skills. There are so
many exciting things happening at Margaret Collins including our
walking and photography groups, intergenerational rookie golf
tournaments and art projects to name but a few. We have very
strong links in our local community and get involved in all sorts
of voluntary events as well. Working here has taught me that age is
not a barrier to learning and growing as people.
"I would say that I’m a bubbly and outgoing person - but
diplomatic as well. “Give it a go Sue”: that’s me!"
Interesting fact: "I love abseiling and rock
climbing."
How much will it cost?
The average rent for a bungalow in a sheltered scheme is about
£43 per week .The service will cost you about £12 a week. This does
not include the charge for general maintenance of the building such
as cleaning the shared areas. We include the cost of the service in
your rent. We will tell you if we change the charge and we try to
keep the cost as low as possible.
