Eastbourne OfficerMeet the Sheltered Housing Officer: Gwen Terry

"Hello, my name is Gwen and I have been a Sheltered Housing Officer for two years now. Before this job I worked in a nursery (the kind with plants) and a Café and another Housing organisation, so I feel that I have brought a range of skills with me into this job.

"Eastbourne Court is a small friendly scheme and has a very welcoming feel to it. We get involved in all sorts of things - recently we’ve created a glass etching and a mosaic (which you can see if you come to visit us). We have recently had a greenhouse delivered and have been making hanging baskets and growing vegetables which has been great.

"If I had to describe myself I would say that I was easy to get on with; I’m enthusiastic and patient and I laugh a lot!"

Interesting fact: "I love keeping fit: I go to the gym 5 times a week as well as doing Yoga, both of which keep me energised and motivated every day."

What will my flat be like?

Each flat has its own lounge/bedroom, kitchen and bathroom. There are warden call alarm pull cords in each room that link each flat to the Resident Warden or CCAS giving 24 hour cover in case of emergencies.

How much will it cost?

The average rent for a flat in a sheltered scheme is about £42 per week .The service will cost you about £11 a week. This does not include the charge for general maintenance of the building such as cleaning the shared areas. We include the cost of the service in your rent. We will tell you if we change the charge and we try to keep the cost as low as possible.
