Dr Ryan House

In a peaceful setting on the edge of Walker Park, Dr Ryan House
offers something for everyone with beautiful gardens, friendly
lounge areas and great local connections.
There is a large medical centre close by with a proposed new
centre being built. It has two large communal lounges and a modern
communal kitchen.
Dr Ryan House is situated in well maintained landscaped
gardens and there are many sitting areas for residents to use. The
scheme consists of 38 flats, some ideally suited to the single
person and others a little larger for couples. There are also a
small number of flats suitable for disabled clients.
All flats are suitable for anyone over the age of 60 years with
a warden living on site and cover by mobile wardens when the
resident warden is off duty.

Meet the Sheltered Housing Officer: Bev Jackson
"Hello, my name is Bev and I have been a
Sheltered Housing Officer now for 2 years. I did similar work
years ago but changed for a few years to work in a resource centre
for older people - I think this job helped me to
further develop my ‘customer care’ skills and I feel that I have
put them to good use since my return!
"I love the fact that the people who live here
are all so involved in our events and there is such a sociable
atmosphere here – it’s a pleasure to come to work. I’ve
also learned lots about the history of the area and the fascinating
people who live here. Right now we have some keen gardeners
and have won the local gardening awards for the last few years,
something we are very proud of.
"If I had to describe myself I’d say I’m a
typical Capricorn, grounded, earthy and with a good sense of
humour. I also think that I am fair, honest and have an
approachable manner (you can tell me if I’m right when you meet
me!)."
Interesting fact: "When
I was 17 I attended a party hosted by the CIA – when you meet me
ask me for the details!"
What will my flat be like?
Each flat has its own lounge/bedroom, kitchen and bathroom.
There are warden call alarm pull cords ineach room that link each
flat to the Sheltered Housing Officer or CCAS giving 24
hour cover in case of emergencies.
How much will it cost?
The average rent for a flat in a sheltered scheme is about £42
per week .The service will cost you about £11 a week. This does not
include the charge for general maintenance of the building such as
cleaning the shared areas. We include the cost of the service in
your rent. We will tell you if we change the charge and we try to
keep the cost as low as possible.
