What will my flat be like? Belvedere House living room

The one-bedroom flats have their own lounge, bedroom, bathroom and wc. There is a fitted kitchen with its own cooker and fridge supplied. One-person apartments have a lounge/bedroom combined. Each flat has a number of warden call pull cords, which link each resident to the CCAS Control Room in case of emergency. Your warden will show you how to operate this equipment.

How much will it cost?

The average rent for a flat in a sheltered scheme is about £42 per week .The service will cost you about £11 a week. This does not include the charge for general maintenance of the building such as cleaning the shared areas. We include the cost of the service in your rent. We will tell you if we change the charge and we try to keep the cost as low as possible.

Sarah WilsonMeet the Sheltered Housing Officer: Sarah Wilson

"Hello, my name is Sarah and I have been a Sheltered Housing Officer for nearly two years now. Before that I worked in a call centre but I didn’t enjoy the work – so my friend told me about her job as a Sheltered Housing Officer and the rest, as they say, is history.

"The people at Belvedere are so friendly and easy to work with it makes coming to work a real pleasure, and we have a great time at the many social activities that we get involved in. We recently won second place in the Sheltered Housing garden awards so we are all delighted that all of the hard work and effort we put in has been recognised.

"I enjoy this job so much because I get to talk to people face to face and help them (instead of being at the end of a telephone!).   If I had to describe myself I would say that I was friendly, kind and hardworking."

Interesting fact: "I love travelling and have been to Thailand and America. I’m hoping to go back to America next summer as there is so much still to see."
