What will my flat be like?
Each flat has its own lounge, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom(s).
The fitted kitchen has its own cooker and fridge supplied.
There are warden call alarm pull cords in each of the main rooms
that link each flat to the Sheltered Housing Officer or CCAS giving
24 hour cover in case of emergencies. Your Sheltered Housing
Officer will show you how to use this equipment.
How much will it cost?
The average rent for a flat in a sheltered scheme is about £65
per week .The service will cost you about £11.61 a week. This
does not include the charge for general maintenance of the building
such as cleaning the shared areas. We include the cost of the
service in your rent. We will tell you if we change the
charge and we try to keep the cost as low as possible.
Meet the Sheltered Housing Officer: Maureen Ball
"Hello, my name is Maureen and I have been a Sheltered Housing
Officer for over 15 years. Before that I was a Care Worker for 10
years so have spent all of my life helping older people.
"I love the fact that it’s possible to change a person’s day for
the better just by giving someone a bit of your time and help and
seeing someone smile as a result always makes me feel good.
"Allendale House has won Best Sheltered Garden for the last 7
years, something we are all very proud of, and it is the perfect
setting for our annual summer fair where we bring the local
community together, giving local children a day to remember and
raising money into the bargain.
"Working in this job has meant that I have developed a lot of
knowledge about all sorts of useful things, so if you’ve got a
question just ask and I’ll see what I can find for you.
"If I had to describe myself I would say that I am an honest and
open person, and not afraid to speak up when it helps people living
at Allendale House!"
Interesting fact: "I’ve always had a love for dolls houses
and hope soon to spend some time restoring my daughters’ dolls
