What do I need to do for the Right to Buy
1. Request a Right to Buy application form
Contact the Right to Buy Section at Your Homes Newcastle,
Customer Service Centres, Housing offices or download RTB1 form
www.communities.gov.uk
2. Complete application form for all parties wishing to
buy
Send to Right to Buy Section, Your Homes Newcastle, YHN House,
Benton Park Road, Newcastle upon Tyne, NE7 7LX
Include with your application photocopies of your personal
identity documents, e.g. passport, photo driving licence and proof
of address.
3. You will receive an acknowledgement letter giving you
your individual Right to Buy reference number
You will need this reference number when contacting
us.
4. You will receive your RTB2 form
This will tell you if you have the Right to Buy. If you have the
Right to Buy, our Property Service team will contact you to arrange
a suitable valuation appointment time.
5. We will send you your offer notice within eight weeks
for a house or twelve weeks for a flat or maisonette.
You should contact a reputable lender to help you decide if it
is in your best interest to buy
If you decide to buy you need to decide how you are going to
fund the purchase.
- You will need to organise an independent survey from a
qualified surveyor.
- You will need to organise a solicitor.
- You will need to complete the Acceptance form you received with
your Section 125 Offer Notice. If you are buying a flat you also
need to complete the Building Insurance form attached to your
Acceptance. You should send your completed Acceptance paperwork to
the Right to Buy section.
6. You will need to make sure you have your payment in
place before completion
You should make sure all monies owing to YHN\Council are paid to
date prior to completion.
7. You will need to arrange a completion date with your
solicitor
