When Anna Boag first moved into her flat,
there were no social events and no one knew each other. But
she set about changing all that, and now Park View Grange in
Blakelaw is a buzzing place to be.
Anna, 59, and partner Robert Thompson, 64, moved to the
supported accommodation as he suffers from Parkinson’s
disease. She provides round-the-clock care for her partner,
but Anna always finds time to look out for the other residents and
organises weekly social events for everyone.
It started when she first arrived, and invited everyone for a
cup of tea in the communal area. It was the first time some
residents had stepped outside of their flats in a long time.
The event was so successful, Anna decided to start organising
weekly events including bingo, musical entertainment and tea
parties.
“It’s lovely to get together,” she said.
“It’s amazing how many lonely people there were. But they all know
each other now.”
Anna also puts up posters to make sure people are aware of the
Hop to the Shops bus service, provided by Nexus.
She is holding a coffee morning for Macmillan Cancer Support on
September 26, with the help of sister Catherine Stephen, 64 of
Meadow Rise who likes to lend a hand at the social events at Park
View Grange.
Mrs Stephen said:
“Anna is very modest and does not like to
talk about everything she does. But she has completely changed
things there, as no one knew each other before.”
