Volunteering at YHN
Volunteering opportunities are currently available with YHN’s Young
People’s Service
Although YHN is primarily a housing organisation, we do a lot of
work with our customers to help people sustain their
tenancies.
The Young People's Service supports young people who have
been homeless or who are at risk of becoming homeless.
The role of the volunteer
Volunteers can get involved in a range of different tasks and
activities, from helping people to decorate their homes to
attending formal appointments to helping people get out and about
and take part in group activities and days out.
The benefits
- Develop communication skills
- Meet new people
- Build your confidence
- Gain practical experience of supporting people
- Get involved in your community
- Have some fun!
Volunteers receive support from a YHN mentor and are invited to
attend regular meetings with other volunteers to share their
experiences. Volunteers can also claim expenses for any costs
incurred by their volunteering activities (for example, mileage or
public transport costs).
The person
Volunteers will be required to attend an induction course and
under-go a full DBS disclosure before they can start with any
activities.
Volunteers should be able to commit to at least one hour a week
so they can build a full relationship with the person they are
matched to.
