Positive activities

We are always looking at new and different ways that we can get customers involved and one of new methods is through our Positive Activities Programme.

This programme is a different way for you to get involved with YHN. We have worked with customers to develop lots of activities for the programme and we have already taken lots of great ideas on board. We know that we have a diverse customer base with people of all ages from different backgrounds so we have tried to include a wide range of activities to encourage all customers to get involved.

Here are just a few of the activities that you can take part in:

Generation Game Festival

Golfers as old as 85 and as young as 8 took part in a festival to celebrate the end of six months working with Rookie Sports to improve the lives of Your Homes Newcastle (YHN)’s sheltered housing scheme residents.

Over100 people took take part in the festival, forming four intergenerational teams. The winning team was St Margaret’s Targets which was made up of residents of Margaret Collins House and children from St Albans Primary School.

Around 300 YHN tenants have been involved in the Rookie Golf programme since the project started. It was designed to increase physical activity and social opportunities for those living in sheltered housing. The festival also challenged perceptions and broke down barriers between different generations.

A2B logoA2B

A2B is our partnership with the Newcastle Eagles basketball team.

We have a number of tickets for Eagles home games at the Sports Central Arena at Northumbria University. The tickets are available free of charge to any YHN tenants but we specifically target families as we run a number of competitions and reward schemes for the kids to enjoy.

The Eagles have music, street dancers, ball jugglers and loads of other things on game nights so it is a great night out for the whole family.

If you would like to come along to an A2B game please contact the Customer Involvement Team on 0191 278 8723, e-mail your details to a2b@yhn.org.uk or text A2B to 07814 753 088.

Your Goals Newcastle

Your Goals NewcastleYour Goals Newcastle is a football development project that we deliver in partnership with Hat-Trick. It gives young people who live on our estates in the West End of Newcastle the opportunity to access free football coaching and play in the Neighbourhood Football League.

The project is available to young people aged 10-18 and lots of estates now have their own football team in the league so get in touch and we’ll find a team that is local to you.

If you want more information about the Your Goals Newcastle project then contact Stuart Clarke on 0191 278 8723 or e-mail stuart.clarke@yhn.org.uk.

Training with Sainsburys

Stacking up skills for tenantsWe have worked with Sainsburys to give our customers the opportunity to experience what it is like to work for one of the largest retail employers.

The Sainsburys training team put our customers through their paces by giving them a course in customer service. The customers then got to put their new skills into action by working with Sainsburys staff on the shop floor. Our tenants really became Sainsburys staff for the day by helping out on the tills, doing some bag packing and assisting customers around the shop floor. The group of tenants then had an assessment day with Sainsburys which helped them prepare for the application process and interview.

This is just one of the training courses that we provide so if you are interested in this course or any of our other courses then contact the Customer Involvement Team on 0191 278 8723 or e-mail Getinvolved@yhn.org.uk
