The St Anthony's area has nurseries on Dunstanburgh Road and Monkchester Road, in Welbeck Road Library and at St Martin's Church and Community Centre.

There is a Roman Catholic primary school at St Vincent's and three Church of England schools on Welbeck Road, Wharrier Street and in Walkergate.   

Secondary education is available at Walker Technical College.

There are a number of bus services which run into Newcastle city centre.  These include the number 12 for St Anthony's estate, numbers 39 and 40 for the Welbeck Road area and number 22 serving the Fossway area to the North.
