Our Partners

Partnership definition

A partnership is a relationship between two or more people, agencies or organisations. The relationship is often based on trust, equality, and mutual understanding and obligations. They can be formal, where each party's roles and obligations are spelled out in a written agreement, or informal, where the roles and obligations are assumed or agreed to verbally.

Why work in partnership?

Working in partnership opens up opportunities that otherwise would not have existed or would not have been as beneficial for the organisations involved.

Working with partners has many benefits for YHN, it allows us to:

  • Achieve more by pooling resources and achieve greater value for money
  • Provide extra services and better support our most vulnerable tenants
  • Extend our creative possibilities and deliver positive activities tenants which we would not be able deliver on our own
  • Help our tenants access employment
  • Work in partnership with other organisations and communities to help make our communities safer
  • Improve the energy efficiency of our homes, and provide more homes for people to live in.

At YHN we know we cannot achieve our vision on our own, we recognise the power of great partnerships. Many of our most recent successes have been based on team work and partnerships with outside organisations.

Key document

The document below describes partnership working and contains important information about how we should approach partnership working.

Examples of recent and current partnership working

Partnership What we did/do we do How has it helped our customers
West Denton Bowls Project Coaches from West Denton Indoor Bowls Centre provided training to children from two local schools. The children then went on to compete against each other in a tournament.
The aim of the project was to get residents of different ages working together to learn more about each other. The partnership helped improve community relations, promote healthy living, promote existing community groups and introduce children from the area to a new sport.
Newcastle Futures Partnership  We work with Newcastle Futures to help tenants gain access to training and employment. By May 2011 we had referred over 200 tenants to Newcastle Futures. We have also worked with Newcastle Futures to deliver a number of employability events and workshops for customers.
The Newcastle Graded Response Partnership A partnership between the Police, Victim Support, Public Health, the Drug and Alcohol Service and the Youth Inclusion Team. YHN is a lead agency and aims to tackle anti-social behaviour and reduce the risk of re-offending through tackling the problem early. The use of graded response letters have been a useful tool in tackling ASB within the city, contacting offenders early has proved a valuable deterrent and helped to stop many incidents escalating or an individual’s behaviour getting out of hand. Since the 1st April 2011 YHN has issued 359 ‘1st warning letters’. Where problems have persisted 84 perpetrators received a ‘2nd warning letter with 78 of those perpetrators agreeing to an acceptable behaviour agreement.
This effective approach to tackling ASB has helped to reduce Anti-Social Behaviour across the city making our communities safer and our estates more attractive places to live.
Newcastle Warm Zone  YHN works in partnership with Newcastle Warm Zone to provide energy efficiency measures such as insulation to our homes, and to provide advice to customers about how to save energy and reduce fuel bills. Thanks to YHN’s partnership with Newcastle Warm Zone we have been able to offer free cavity wall and loft insulation to all YHN tenants.

Our other partners

We are represented on the Delivery Board of Newcastle Partnership, the Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) for Newcastle.  Newcastle Partnership brings together, at a local level, a range of public, private, community and voluntary sector groups; allowing different initiatives and services to support one another so that they can work together more effectively.
