Old and young get dancing as hip hop meets the twist in Newcastle

1/10/2008 Dancers aged from 18 to eighty will be strutting their strictly stuff at a Bringing Generations Together dance event organised by Your Homes Newcastle's Community Care Alarm Service (CCAS) and sponsored by Newcastle leisure venue The Gate.

Young and old will be trying out a range of 20th and 21st century dance styles covering musical genres ranging from Hip Hop to Rock n' Roll at an event held at The Gate on October 1 between 7pm and 8pm.

Professional instructors from The Newcastle Dance Centre will be on hand and the event will finish with a professional dance display by its Encore dance and entertainment group.

The Bringing Generations Together event will celebrate UK Older People day - a national day that celebrates the contribution that older people make to their communities around the UK.

Your Homes Newcastle is the organisation that manages Newcastle's 31,000 council homes, its CCAS service provides a wide range of support for vulnerable people in sheltered housing accommodation and for people who live in their own homes.

CCAS Care Services Manager Alyson Bell said:

"This event is all about getting older and younger people together and enjoying some healthy exercise. Younger and older people sometimes have big misconceptions about each other and Bringing Generations Together will hopefully help break down some of these barriers."

The event is free and organisers want as many people as possible to turn up and have a go at the dances. To find out more contact YHN's Community Care Alarm Service on 0191 278 8699.
