Lights, camera, action...for Lord Mayor and Newcastle teenagers

Film of trip to Little Rock launched at YHN House
Last October, teenagers from our Young People's Service visited
Little Rock, Arkansas as part of a delegation from
Newcastle City Council. A film of the trip was launched
officially at a ceremony in YHN House in March.
The young people joined Cllr David Wood, the Lord Mayor of
Newcastle, on the trip as part of the Lord Mayor's
official delegation, to share their experiences of
homelessness with teenagers in Arkansas, and to learn about how the
issue is dealt with in America.
The film follows the young people's activities over the week, which
included a presentation to the local council in Little Rock,
helping out at a soup kitchen and touring the emergency
accommodation which is available to homeless teenagers. There
are also video diaries of what each young person learnt from
the week.
The film also features Cllr David Wood attending a civic
ceremony to exchange gifts with the Mayor of Little Rock, formally
twinning the two cities.
YHN Supported Accommodation Manager Norman Slater said:
"The young people were absolutely fantastic
ambassadors for Your Homes Newcastle and we'd like to thank them
for their hard work and enthusiasm in communicating their
experiences.
"The trip also made them realise how lucky
they are to enjoy facilities like YHN's young people's supported
accommodation unit in Gosforth."
The film was launched officially at a ceremony at YHN's
headquarters, attended by the Lord and Lady Mayor, YHN Chief
Executive John Lee, and of course, the young people themselves.
