Apprenticeship opportunities with YHN
This article first appeared in the June/July 2012
edition of Homes & People
Are you aged between 16 and 18 and looking for an
apprenticeship? Or maybe you know someone who is?
Youth unemployment is at record levels and we know that it is
harder than ever for young people to get into work.
Apprenticeships are an excellent way of gaining qualifications
and workplace experience. As an apprentice you can earn as you
learn and gain practical skills from the workplace.
We introduced our very own apprenticeship programme in 2011
which will be continuing later this year. We believe YHN
apprenticeships should benefit YHN customers, so to be eligible
applicants need to be aged between 16 and 18 when the
apprenticeship starts, and must live in a YHN managed home.
We will start to recruit in the early autumn for our
apprenticeship programme. Roles are likely to include Housing,
Business Administration, Customer Service, IT, Finance, and
Gardening. If you would like to learn on the job, earn your own
money, improve your career prospects, and gain recognised
qualifications - we’d love to hear from you.

Lee: “I’ve learnt so much about the world of
work”
Lee Mole, 19, is one of the apprentices taking part in the
scheme. He approached his local housing office looking for
employment after completing a work experience placement with YHN
during his time at school and was told about the apprenticeship
programme.
Lee, from Walker, is working in the Organisational Development
team. He said:
“Through my apprenticeship I’ve learned so much about the world
of work, everything from answering telephones to the importance of
being organised, and everyone around the office is really
friendly.
“When I’ve completed the apprenticeship I really hope to be able
to continue working
at YHN, I’ve really enjoyed working here and I’m really grateful
for all the opportunities I’ve been given so far.”
