The scheme allows you to buy your home in stages – you buy an initial share and pay a mortgage on this, while paying an affordable rent on the part of the property you don’t own.  When you can afford to, you can buy additional shares in the property until you own your home outright.

If you think you might struggle to get a mortgage, don’t worry  – you may qualify to rent the property at a reduced rate for up to five years while you save for a deposit to get a mortgage on your first share.
