How to become a Board Member
The Main Board is made up of six council
nominees who are appointed by Newcastle City Council ; six tenant
members, two from each of the three areas of the City, elected by
other tenants on an area basis; six independent people who are
chosen by the council and tenant members; and a Chair.
The three Area Boards have a similar one third
composition of council nominees, tenant members and independent
people who are appointed in the same way as people are appointed to
the Main Board. The East and Outer West & North Area
Boards have 15 members and the Inner West has 12 members.
On both the main and area boards, tenant and independent members
stand down in rotation. Before every annual general meeting,
direct elections are held among tenants and leaseholders in the
areas where the tenant members are retiring. Tenant and/or
leaseholders can put themselves foreward for election at this
time. Independent members are recruited through an
application and interview process.
