About us

We are an Arms Length Management Organisation (ALMO) responsible
for managing council homes on behalf of tenants and leaseholders
for Newcastle City Council.
We were launched in 2004 and are responsible for around 30,000
homes in Newcastle.
In June 2008 we were awarded a three star excellent rating by
the Audit Commission, making us the first ALMO in the North East to
receive three stars.
We are a member of the National Federation of ALMOs, the
representative trade body for Arms Length
Management Organisations - you can visit the website of the
National Federation of ALMOs at www.almos.org.uk.
Our structure
YHN is a large organisation with around 850 members
of staff. A large majority of our staff work in
housing related positions but we also have people working in all
sorts of other roles to ensure that the business runs smoothly.
We are divided into three main
groups:

offered in Management, Leadership and Coaching from Level 2 through
to Level 7.
Places on programmes are available to YHN’s partner
organisations at a discounted rate.
If you would like any more information on ILM qualifications
please contact Elouise Leonard-Cross, ILM Centre Manager, on 0191

Destination Excellence
We ran a 'Destination Excellence' internal communications
campaign to inform, involve and inspire staff prior to our
inspection by the Audit Commission in April 2008. We went on
to receive a ‘three star with excellent prospects for improvement’
rating; the first such housing organisation in the North East to
achieve this rating.
As part of Destination Excellence, a 15 minute film was made by
and shown to staff - it shows how we have transformed
council homes and housing services in Newcastle. It also
includes some case studies which show that we are no longer a
housing provider but an organisation that has started to
positively influence the life experiences of our customers.

In February 2009, we also ran an internal staff awards scheme to
recognise and reward the achievements of our staff who go the extra
mile to deliver excellent services to our customers. You can
watch a short film about the awards below:
